General description of the collection: The Gruber, Taylor, Thomas families photograph collection contains photos of several families as they figured in the genealogy of the Taylor, Thomas, and Gruber families. There are photos of Commodore Alfred Taylor who served in the Civil War; Alfred B. Taylor who served in the Civil War with the 22nd New York State Militia and then with the 5th U.S. Cavalry until he retired as a captain in 1879; Sydney W. Taylor who served with the 4th U.S. Artillery beginning in 1867 through his retirement in 1905; and General Lorenzo Thomas whose photo is of the Civil War period. There are several photos taken at Fort McPherson, Georgia, and of family members up to 1941. Most of the photographs in this collection are of civilian family members.
